Chelsea have officially announced the capture of one defender previously linked with a move to Liverpool.

The latest addition to Arne Slot’s side is Hugo Ekitike, whose move to Liverpool was officially confirmed last week.

Liverpool announced that they had agreed a deal with Eintracht Frankfurt for the Frenchman, making him the seventh player to join the Reds this summer following the signings of Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Armin Pecsi, Florian Wirtz, Giorgi Mamardashvili and Freddie Woodman.

However, the club aren’t yet done in the market.

They have turned their attention to signing Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak.

A first bid for the Swedish striker has already been submitted, but Newcastle United are holding out for more.

The Reds are expected to return to the table with a second bid in the coming days.

They are also expected to sign a defender before the window closes.

One defender that was initially linked with a move to the Premier League champions is Jorrel Hato.

However, he has now signed for Liverpool’s rivals, Chelsea.

“Chelsea is delighted to announce the signing of Netherlands international Jorrel Hato from Ajax,” a club statement read.

“The 19-year-old defender has penned a long-term contract at Stamford Bridge through to 2032 and will join up with his new team-mates this week.”

Speaking after his move was officially confirmed, Hato said:

“I’m very excited, I’m so happy to be here.

“I thought a lot about my future and wanted to take the next step in my career.

Chelsea is the best place for me to do that, so I’m very happy.”

Liverpool will be hoping to sign one defender before the window shuts.

Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi is high on the club’s list of potential targets for that position.

However, Liverpool are reluctant about getting into a bidding war with Palace for a player, who has just one year left on his current deal at Selhurst Park.
